Lady Gaga Discusses Challenges of Leaving Characters Behind After Filming

In a recent exclusive interview, Lady Gaga opened up about the emotional challenges she faces when portraying complex characters on screen. Currently starring as Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie à Deux, she shared her experiences of becoming deeply connected to the roles she plays, including those in A Star Is Born and House of Gucci. While she acknowledges the difficulty of leaving these characters behind, Gaga emphasizes her personal growth and newfound perspective.

The Emotional Connection to Characters

Gaga expressed that her connection to her roles often runs deep. “You fall in love with the characters that you play,” she explained. This emotional investment can make it challenging to detach from them after filming concludes, revealing the intensity with which she approaches her craft.

To fully embody her characters, Gaga has taken significant steps, such as staying in character for extended periods. “For House of Gucci, I resolved to stay in character for over nine months,” she shared. This level of immersion highlights her dedication to authenticity in her performances, though it can complicate the transition back to her own life.“It’s very important to me that when I’m on screen, people don’t feel like it’s me the whole time. I think that would be very distracting.”

Personal Growth and New Beginnings

“I’ve been in the music industry since I was a teenager. And I’ve been working in the film industry for the last 10 years or so,” says the Oscar winner. “And you know, I think that I just went through a lot.”

Despite the challenges, Gaga feels she is in a better place now. “I just feel a lot better now and it’s nice to be able to say that,” she noted. Her engagement to businessman Michael Polansky and upcoming music projects signify a positive shift in her life, allowing her to embrace new opportunities.

With two forthcoming albums and a thriving film career, Gaga remains focused on her artistic journey. “I’ve been working in the film industry for the last 10 years or so,” she stated, reflecting on her extensive experience. As she continues to evolve as an artist, fans eagerly await what she will bring next to both music and film.
