King Charles III is set to pause his ongoing cancer treatment during an upcoming royal tour of Australia and Samoa, as confirmed by reports. This marks the first major international trip for the King since his diagnosis earlier this year. With a carefully planned itinerary that balances royal duties and health considerations, the King aims to fulfill his commitments while ensuring he maintains his well-being.

Details of the Royal Tour

The royal tour is scheduled from October 18 to October 26, encompassing visits to key locations in Australia, including Sydney and Canberra, followed by a state visit to Samoa. This trip will also feature the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), making it a significant engagement for the King and Queen Camilla.

On the advice of a physician, the sovereign delayed his public engagements, working behind the scenes until April 30, when he returned to his forward-facing royal duties by visiting the University College Hospital Macmillan Cancer Centre. The King made his cancer diagnosis public in part to emphasize the value of early detection, even though the hospital had no direct role in the monarch’s medical treatment.

Before King Charles resumed his public duties, a statement from Buckingham Palace stated that his therapy was still proceeding. It stated that all of the King’s future intentions were contingent upon medical advice, but it did not specify when his treatment might be finished.

Balancing Health and Royal Duties

A recent story claims that on his next royal tour of Australia and Samoa, King Charles will “pause” his ongoing cancer treatment.

The King’s medical staff is permitting the royal to temporarily stop what is believed to be weekly therapy for the long-distance trip, which runs from Friday, October 18 to Saturday, October 26, according to a Daily Mail article on October 6.

“The Mail understands that His Majesty will continue with his ongoing cancer treatment right up until he flies, but that his doctors are happy for it to be briefly stopped while he is away,” according to the publication. According to the site, “The King will then pick up with his treatment cycle as soon as he returns to the U.K.” His treatment is “weekly.”

King and Queen with packed schedule

The 75-year-old King Charles and Queen Camilla will begin their first Commonwealth tour since his ascension next week with a visit to Australia and Samoa. Additionally, it is the royal couple’s first significant international trip since Buckingham Palace revealed the King’s cancer diagnosis in February.

The 77-year-old King and Queen will attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) 2024 in Australia and Samoa, which will add to their already full agenda. Since the King leads the Commonwealth organization of 56 countries, there has been much conjecture about his participation at

Although the itinerary was changed for his health, the palace stated that the couple’s engagements in both countries “will focus on themes designed to celebrate the best of Australia and Samoa, as well as reflecting aspects of The King and Queen’s work.”
