Katie Holmes has taken to New York’s Theater District so well while performing in the revival of Our Town on Broadway.
Recently, when she appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the 45-year-old actress opened up about her Broadway experience-a little behind-the-scenes detail as to how she prepares for each performance, the importance she gives to rehearsal, and how she has been welcomed by the local staff at Starbucks.
Holmes also shows how she manages her hectic schedule with quick naps, keeping her energized throughout the eight-show weeks.
Katie Holmes’s Pre-Show Rituals: Starbucks and Focused Rehearsals
Katie Holmes revealed her pre-show ritual on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
“They’re so lovely,” Holmes said about the Starbucks staff on Eighth Avenue in New York City.
“Every time I go in, they know me and I know them,” she explained warmly. The actress added that the staff always wishes her a great show before she leaves.
She explained how she always practices all her lines twice before rehearsal. “I have gone over them about three times at home,” she added, to illustrate how she puts extra effort in the practice sessions.
Holmes explained a funny incident on stage caused by forgetting one line. “One time I didn’t do it,” she remembered, “and I was in the middle of a scene.” She added, “I just said the whole line except the last word,” showing her shortcoming.
“I couldn’t remember it, and I made something up, but it didn’t make sense,” she laughed.
Holmes’ dedication to perfecting her craft highlights her commitment to her role on Broadway. “It’s part of my process,” she said, noting that consistency was key to her practice.
Holmes Balances Broadway and Rest: Napping to Stay Energized
Katie Holmes talked about her hectic schedule on Broadway while on the show with Fallon. She revealed how she keeps up with the eight shows per week: napping.
“I scoped out the theater’s basement and found a couch that could fit me,” she reported.
Holmes revealed that she rests intermittently during her hectic day to stay energized for performances.
“I’m a deep sleeper,” she said, adding that napping is essential for her busy routine. She humorously noted, “I once accidentally napped during an ongoing meeting with my castmates.”
Holmes admitted that she often sets alarms to prevent sleeping through her next performance.
“I get worried in between shows,” she confessed, admitting her fears of missing the start. “That’s why I set the alarm, because the show could start, and I wouldn’t know,” she explained.
Holmes’ ability to balance intense work and restful breaks demonstrates her adaptability to Broadway’s demands. “Napping helps me get through the day,” she said, emphasizing its importance in maintaining her energy.
