Justin Hartley recently spilt all the details of his surprise wedding to Sofia Pernas in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. While on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, October 21, the actor, 47, spilt how he tied the knot with his wife in a private ceremony by the swimming pool at his home. Hartley said he and Pernas, 35, decided to get married after nearly a year of dating, describing it as a move made with the heart and on impulse. “We got out of the pool — and we had our bathing suits on,” Hartley said, explaining how they organized a justice of the peace to conduct their simple ceremony.
Despite the laid-back ambience, Hartley cherishes that day. “We were like, ‘We should do this. We should get married!’ he said.” Following the marriage rites, the newlywed couple raised a glass of margaritas and promptly dived into the pool once more to celebrate their special day warmly and effortlessly.
From Casual Vows to Formal Celebration
Even though their first ceremony came as a surprise, Hartley and Pernas later on held a more conventional wedding for their family and friends. Hartley emphasized that it was vital for him to see Pernas dressed in white for a more formal occasion. “We had to do that,” he reflected on the second occasion. “It was just great, magnific.”
The pair first crossed paths in 2015 on the set of The Young and the Restless but did not begin dating until 2020. For Hartley, the timing of their relationship was crucial. “Timing plays a big role in relationships,” he said, noting that it was a different story the first time they met. But when they got back together, Hartley understood that Pernas was ‘The One.’
A Love Story On and Off the Screen
After the wedding, Hartley and Pernas took their relationship to a professional level, collaborating on the series Quantum Leap and his CBS series Tracker. Hartley praised his wife’s talent, calling her a beautiful actress who has “the most beautiful face”. She added: “If I had my choice, I would be with him every minute.”
According to Hartley, their relationship was not strong, harmonious and very romantic. “It’s amazing not to force things,” he said. “You meet the right person and you just go, ‘Oh, that’s amazing. It’s just great!’ As their professional and personal lives progressed, Hartley and Pernas’ relationship only grew stronger.
