The 54-year-old British actor found out through a genetic test that his late father, Ronald Simm, was not his biological parent. While delving into his ancestry alongside his *Life on Mars* co-star Philip Glenister, Simm encountered unexpected news that changed his understanding of his family background. A genetic test revealed that Terry Smith, not Ronald Simm, was his biological father. Simm expressed that the discovery “spun his world,” challenging everything he thought he knew about his upbringing. Although Ronald, who raised him, passed away in 2015, Simm also learned that Smith lived in the same area of Manchester, England, and had also passed away.
Adding to the emotional weight of the discovery, Simm shared how his mother had previously mentioned the complicated history between her and his father during the 1960s. Despite having been together when they had Simm, his parents briefly split up and reunited, a part of his story that he had never known until now.
