RR Martin Criticizes Changes Made In The House Of Dragons
Creator of Game of Thrones George R.R. Martin revealed his displeasure with the modifications made to the fantasy series House of the Dragons. Martin expressed his opinions on his blog, noting that he is unhappy with the substantial modifications that co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal made to his adaptation of the novel Fire & Blood. He believes that the changes made in seasons two, three, and four could have major ramifications.
George RR Martin stated, “I still think the scene in the book is stronger. It is the readers’ right to have that. In the book, the two murderers are more ruthless. Although I thought the performers portraying the murderers in the episode were great, the characters in FIRE & BLOOD are more brutal, tougher, and terrifying. Additionally, I think Helaena displays greater bravery and strength throughout the novel by sacrificing her own life to save her son. Giving a jewelry item is simply not the same. In my opinion, the ‘Sophie’s Choice’ segment was the most intense, visceral, and darkest element of the series. It hurts to let go of something. And it seems that the majority of fans agreed based on the online responses.”
HBO Reacts On RR Martin’s Criticism
Season two features a few new scenes, such as the one involving Blood and Cheese, two people paid to kill Jaehaerys in front of his mother. However, the sequence was presented differently in the book. RR Martin was not happy with some scenes and changes that were made.
Even yet, Martin’s post was removed in a matter of hours. HBO released a statement in response as well. “The 6-year-old twins Jaehaerys and Jaehaera are the two young children that Aegon and Helaena have in the program. They have three in the novel; Maelor, their two-year-old brother, is the youngest. It seems like a very standard adaptive decision to have one less child in a large series with a large cast of characters for viewers to remember. However, as The Hollywood Reporter shares, Martin observes that this is having a “butterfly effect” of implications.
