The former CEO of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki passed away on Friday 9 August after fighting Lung Cancer for 2 years. Her husband Dennis Troper announced this sad news on Facebook with a heartfelt note saying “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing,” he wrote. “My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.”
“Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken but grateful for the time we had with her.”
“Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time,” the post concluded. Wojcicki’s husband poignantly shared several photos beside his message of her from over the years with him and some of their children.
The Incredibly innovative mind
Susan’s career began as a Google employee in 1999, It was her first marketing executive of Google who led the early development of Google’s image search and supervised product management of Google Book Search and AdSense according to the outlet.
Sunday Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, pays her a tribute on X stating: “Unbelievably saddened by the loss of my dear friend Susan Wojcicki… She is as core to the history of Google as anyone, and it’s hard to imagine the world without her. She was an incredible person, leader, and friend who had a tremendous impact on the world and I’m one of countless Googlers who is better for knowing her.”
Susan took over as YouTube’s CEO in 2014 and it was her innovative development of video-sharing in social media that held her to the position of CEO for a long tenure of 9 years.
On her demise, the current YouTube CEO Neal expressed his gratitude for working with her and condolence to the family on X “Today we @youtube lost a teammate, mentor, and friend, @SusanWojcicki. I had the good fortune of meeting Susan 17 years ago when she was the architect of the DoubleClick acquisition. Her legacy lives on in everything she touched @google and @youtube.”

Survived Son’s Fatal Death
Wojcicki’s 19-year-old son, Marco Troper, passed away from a drug overdose at UC Berkeley in February. Marco was found unresponsive in his dorm room at Clark Kerr Campus. The Alameda County Coroner confirmed that Marco’s death was due to “acute combined drug toxicity.”. Her family backed her during this emotional period.
