On October 19, 2024, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande appeared in characters inspired by the motion picture “Wicked” which made sense considering the creative concept of the event at the fourth annual Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala ball in Los Angeles, held on October 19, 2024. The much-awaited film version of the Wicked gave meaning to their styles, as Erivo turned into Elphaba in a custom designed hot green Louis Vuitton dress while Grande referenced Glinda in a couture dress from Balmain from the year 1963.
The focus gown Erivo was wearing was in serene green color with no straps and had high detailing around the waist and started off with bubble hem, thus depicting the rich imagery of the Wicked Witch. The details of the look included: silver bracelets and rings decorated with green stones, green eye shadow and a dark lipstick. On the contrary, in the movie, Glinda used to wear a lot of pink and this colored the personality of how she was seen in the modern film. Grande also dressed as Glinda but in a more contemporary way, not as pink as usual. She looked more chic dressed in a gown with polka dots in black and white and a large bow on the back of the dress.
Dazzling Red Carpet Looks Highlight Hollywood’s Biggest Night
The couple made a striking appearance at the glamorous event, where they stood next to famous Hollywood stars like Jeff Goldblum and special guest Rita Moreno. Grande wore a vintage Balmain dress with a tight black waistband and a full skirt, while Erivo changed into a sleek, emerald green dress covered in rhinestones. This dress, with its structured shoulders and see-through outer layer, showed Erivo’s modern style, proving her ability to wear different fashion looks.
The night was not just a tribute to movie history but also a preview of the highly-awaited Wicked movie. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film has a star-studded cast including Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard. Fans are eagerly waiting for its release, which will bring the beloved Broadway musical to the big screen in a grand new way.
Honoring Hollywood Legends and Celebrating Cinema
In addition to the unforgettable appearances of Erivo and Grande, the gala celebrated industry legends, including the 92-year-old Rita Moreno and filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. Co-chaired by stars like Salma Hayek and Nicole Kidman, the event was a night dedicated to honoring the achievements of Hollywood’s elite. Other notable attendees included Eva Longoria, Tyler Perry, and Paul Mescal, all coming together to acknowledge the transformative impact of cinema.
As the fall release date for the Wicked adaptation draws nearer, excitement continues to build. Erivo and Grande have played a key role in generating this buzz, frequently showcasing their characters’ signature colors at significant events, including the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Their dedication to portraying Elphaba and Glinda through both fashion and performance promises an extraordinary cinematic experience for audiences.
