The push-up competition
The 55-year-old actor recently talked to PEOPLE for their One Last Thing feature, sharing his story about defeating 44-year-old Tatum in a push-up competition during the making of their new film, Blink Twice. “I think I did, like, 52 [push-ups] at that time,” said Slater. “I could have kept going, but I didn’t want to embarrass everyone.”
The father of four continued, claiming that he accomplished the task “all in one shot,” and he hinted that the reward he received was really a “ego boost, really.” Slater quips, “It was just a wonderful feeling that I just kicked Magic Mike’s ass.” “It was great.”
The Blink Twice crew
According to a synopsis, Blink Twice, formerly known as Pussy Island, stars Naomi Ackie as Frida, a cocktail waitress who “becomes infatuated” with Tatum’s character and ends up traveling “with him to his private island, where things begin to go wrong.”
Along with Tatum, Slater, and 31-year-old Ackie, the cast also features Geena Davis, Kyle MacLachlan, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, and Alia Shawkat. The thriller’s director, producer, and co-writer (with E.T. Feigenbaum) is Zoë Kravitz, Tatum’s fiancée.
She initially got to know Tatum while filming the film, and in 2021 they started going out in public together. In October 2023, the couple announced their engagement after Kravitz, 35, was spotted donning an engagement ring at a Halloween celebration.
At the moment, Blink Twice is playing in theaters.
