Billie Eilish has made headlines once again, this time for her decision to stop discussing her sexuality and dating life. In a candid moment during a recent interview, the Grammy-winning artist expressed her frustration with the constant scrutiny surrounding her personal relationships. Eilish, known for her openness in previous interviews, stated, “I’m never talking about it ever, ever, ever again,” highlighting the toll that public interest has taken on her mental well-being.
Privacy is important
The performer, whose third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, was released in May, also stated that she is still figuring out how to deal with being a superstar and that she intends to use more tactful language going forward.
“We’re all babies. We’re all little kids growing up and learning ourselves,” Eilish said.
In a 2021 interview with Elle, the “Bad Guy” singer previously talked about her dating life, stating, “Like, oh sure, that’s everyone else’s business, right? No. Where’s that energy with men? I just wanted to make a song once, and then I kept making songs. I never said, ‘Hey, pay attention to my life.’ “
In her latest statements, Eilish emphasized the importance of privacy in her life. She expressed that constant questions about her romantic interests have become overwhelming. “I just want to keep some things to myself,” she said, asserting her right to maintain boundaries regarding personal matters. This shift indicates a desire for a more private life as she continues to grow as an artist and individual.
A History of Public Scrutiny
In October 2022, Jesse Rutherford of the alternative band The Neighbourhood was previously connected to Eilish. The couple dated for eight months before breaking up in May, according to a source who previously told PEOPLE that they “remain good friends.”
In her Apple TV+ documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, she previously talked about dating and ending her relationship with rapper Brandon Q. Adams, better known by his stage name 7:AMP. She was also connected to actor Matthew Tyler Vorce for a little more than a year, from April 2021 to May 2022.
