Beyoncé’s new song video for “Bodyguard,” from her “Cowboy Carter” album, features the singer wearing three versions inspired by Pamela Anderson’s most memorable styles. The video dropped in early morning hours on November 5, 2024. It is a nostalgic ode to Pamela Anderson’s stunning film roles and red-carpet photoshoots, while peppered with subtle observations and playful jabs.

Iconic Looks Redefined: Tribute to Pamela Anderson

Iconic Looks Reimagined: A Tribute to Pamela Anderson

In the “Bodyguard” video, Beyoncé breathes new life into the classic styles of Anderson. She starts off by modeling Anderson’s “Barb Wire” character, and she dons a fitted black dress with a plunging neckline and knee-high boots and long mesh gloves on her hands. She also assumes a version of Anderson’s famous red bathing suit, which has been re-titled as “Beywatch,” to play off the name. Her third restyle of view is the reinterpretation of the 1999 MTV VMAs look from Anderson, an oversized bright pink fuzzy hat paired with a corset, along with glitter leggings. The aesthetic of those last years of the ’90s is seen here.

Layered Meanings: Secret Messages and Fans Teaser

The video doesn’t lack clever hints, either. Throughout the video, Beyoncé throws up a quick scene with her “Barb Wire” shooting a gun which displays a banner reading “Vote.” Such was her involvement in social activities. Closing the video with a tongue-in-cheek “Happy Beylloween,” in a reference to Halloween just passed, she even attends the fictional “No Visual Awards,” interpreted as a sarcastic reply to fans that wanted to see some visuals in her last few albums. About not giving her full album proper video counterparts, Beyoncé was saying, as quoted in an article from *GQ*, last September 2024, “The music needed space to breathe on its own… Sometimes a visual can be a distraction from the quality of the voice and the music.”
