Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia are currently navigating the complexities of their divorce while prioritizing the well-being of their 4-year-old son, Matteo. According to Chigvintsev’s attorney, Ilona Antonyan, the Dancing with the Stars pro is choosing not to comment on the ongoing legal proceedings. The couple, who married in August 2022 and separated in January 2023, have been actively working together to co-parent their son effectively during this challenging time.
Co-Parenting Focus
Despite the differences in their divorce petitions, both Chigvintsev and Garcia are committed to co-parenting Matteo.
Chigvintsev’s lawyer highlighted their shared dedication to working together for their son’s best interests, aiming to shield him from the complexities of their separation.
The couple’s efforts reflect a desire to create a supportive and stable environment for Matteo amidst the ongoing legal proceedings.
Chigvintsev responded to Garcia’s divorce filing on September 13, requesting joint legal and physical custody of Matteo.
In contrast, Garcia had initially sought sole legal and physical custody, allowing visitation rights for Chigvintsev.
The legal proceedings have also brought financial aspects into focus, with Chigvintsev requesting spousal support and attorney fees, preserving his financial rights as part of standard practice in such cases.
However, Antonyan emphasised that the parties are focused on resolving all issues on mutually acceptable terms.
Legal Proceedings and Financial Aspects
The legal documents reveal divergent views on custody and financial support. While Chigvintsev sought joint custody and spousal support, Garcia had requested sole custody with no spousal support.
Antonyan clarified that Chigvintsev’s response is a standard practice to preserve his rights, ensuring that all financial matters are appropriately addressed.
With no motion currently pending for spousal support, both parties intend to resolve their disputes amicably, focusing on their son’s future.
