Angelina Jolie has ended her legal pursuit against the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI regarding documents related to a 2016 plane altercation with Brad Pitt. Jolie, 49, sought access to FBI records through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request in 2021. However, court documents obtained on September 25 revealed that she dropped the case, marking a significant turn in the long-standing dispute between the former couple.
Ongoing Legal Disputes
Despite being cleared in 2016, the case resurfaced amid Jolie and Pitt’s ongoing legal battles, particularly their dispute over their shared vineyard, Château Miraval.
In 2022, Jolie’s legal team responded to a lawsuit from Pitt, accusing him of physically assaulting two of their children during the 2016 flight.
Pitt’s camp has consistently denied these allegations, calling them “completely untrue.”
The incident in question occurred on a private plane in 2016, days before Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt.
Allegations surfaced that Pitt, reportedly intoxicated, became verbally abusive and physical with one of their six children, who were also present during the flight.
The incident prompted investigations by the Los Angeles Department of Child and Family Services and the FBI, both of which cleared Pitt of any wrongdoing by the end of 2016.
The Impact on Their Family
Jolie and Pitt’s highly publicised divorce and legal battles have continued to attract media attention, with their six children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox—caught in the crossfire.
The children were reportedly present during the 2016 incident, which has further complicated the family’s dynamic.
While the legal case over the plane incident may be over, Jolie and Pitt’s disputes, including their fight over the vineyard, are far from settled.
