That one hurts.”

Not a ‘great’ Tango

Directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, Last Tango in Paris gave birth to a huge controversy in 2007. Marlon Brando’s co-star Maria Schneider revealed that the film’s rape scene involving her character “wasn’t in the original script”. It was improvised by Brando on the spot. Later Bertolucci agreed to the same. Schneider was “left in tears” after being “forced” to participate in the scene. She told Daily Mail that she felt that she has been raped both by the co-actor and the director. She revealed that, “After the scene, Marlon didn’t console me or apologise. Thankfully, there was just one take.”
The actress took her last breath in 2011. But before that In the wake of Schneider’s comments, Bertolucci, who died in 2018, described the controversy as “a ridiculous misunderstanding”.
