Andrew Lloyd Webber has come out to be a champion with the incredible series of ‘X-Factor’ fashion talent sweepstake on the BBC, that included the hit ‘How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?’. The bout witnessed scores of actresses who fought to win the standalone role in ‘The Sound of Music’.
Afterwards, while appearing in a forthright interview, the music composer admitted that the rare show surfaced on the BritishTV only because of an unprecedented blunder.
A much anticipated fresh take
As Lord Webber was asked about ‘The Sound of Music’, he prompted to explain that his admiration for the melody set about at a time when he used to watch the production at school. Later on, he disclosed a huge secret at the backdrop of such competition saying, “I wanted to star Scarlett Johansson in it and it was all sort of agreed and done. I wanted a girl who was the real age of Maria, i.e. 18, and somebody fresh from the convent. You didn’t want some sort of old woman doing it, which is how I’ve always seen it.”
The major rebuff
But however, the luck didn’t favour the fortune as the star was all of a sudden compelled to give up. Afterwards, he confronted the uncertain future thinking about if he could ever bring on the show before the public.
Choosing the right path was an obligation
Webber told, “Scarlett wanted to do it, but I suppose from her point of view, wisely, her agent said ‘No, you can’t be in the London Palladium for nine months’, when she had a huge film career. So I thought ‘What am I going to do? Because if I don’t have a star as Maria? I’m going nowhere’. Nobody is going to want to see a revival of ‘The Sound of Music’ however good unless we’ve got a star.”
Lastly, Lord Webber understood that the “only way” to triumph such a situation would be by putting the tuneful on the stage led by a nominated winner from the “talent competition”.
