Recently E! News has reported that Meghan Markle has established a connection with Althea Bernstein, the victim of a deliberate hate crime which took place in Wisconsin last week. The Black woman (18) was reached out by Meghan and Prince Harry over the weekend as the couple called her to “offer their support and hopefully be a small source of comfort.” If we go by the reports of NBC News, police in Madison has started probing the matter.

A daring drive

As per the police department’s reports about the incident, Bernstein saw four white men  one of whom “used a spray bottle to deploy a liquid on her face and neck, and then threw a flaming lighter at her, causing the liquid to ignite.” Meanwhile, the victim extinguished the flames driving the accused away. When her mother reached the venue, she was taken to the hospital where the nature of the liquid was confirmed.

Being the pillar of confidence

Wisconsin news outlet Channel 3000 has reported that it was only through the president of the Dane County Boys & Girls Club, Michael Johnson that Meghan was able to get in touch with the young girl. Later on, Johnson also acted as Bernstein’s spokesperson claiming the royal pair spoke to the teenager over the phone for a span of 40 minutes on Saturday afternoon. While speaking about Meghan and Bernstein, he said, “Her and Meghan talked about the importance of self-care and allowing herself to heal…And she applauded her for the way that she responded and pretty much said, ‘Hey Michael, give me her cell phone number. I want to stay in touch.” That sounds too heartrending as nothing more than the supportive conversation could have strengthened her at the moment.

Johnson also voiced that Bernstein was “moved” by the interaction, who revealed “She’s struggling… I’ll tell you Meghan lifted her spirits.” Apart from that, he disclosed the Suits actress advised Bernstein to stay away from social media so that no negative remarks could play with her mind while the two shared their experience of being treated as biracial women in their lives.
