Conor McGregor, the notorious UFC fighter, has found himself at the center of controversy once again, this time facing allegations of sexual assault. A recent court ruling found McGregor liable for the assault, which allegedly occurred in December 2018.
While McGregor has denied the accusations, claiming the encounter was consensual, the case has sparked reactions from various figures in the combat sports world, including Mike Perry and Islam Makhachev, who have weighed in on the scandal with strong opinions. As the legal battle unfolds, the MMA community remains divided over the case’s implications for McGregor’s career and reputation.
Mike Perry Raises Doubts on Allegations Against McGregor
Mike Perry recently discussed the sexual assault allegations against Conor McGregor, expressing skepticism over certain aspects of the victim’s testimony. On the Champ and The Tramp podcast, Perry quoted a statement from the victim claiming McGregor had likened the attack to his 2018 UFC loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The victim was quoted by Perry as saying that McGregor “choked her before the sexual assault to make her understand how he felt before he had to ‘tap out three times’ in the UFC octagon.”
He’s not talking sh** about himself, bro”, Perry said, arguing that the authenticity of the victim’s claims is questionable. “There’s one tweet that said that [Conor McGregor] was like, ‘Now you know what it’s like when I was down three times in the octagon’ and everyone was [suspicious].
While Perry admitted that he didn’t know much of the incident to clear the name of McGregor, he added: “we all wanted to be famous fighters but then you reach a certain level or pinnacle and then you’re running into these demons, I guess.”
UFC Champion Islam Makhachev Reacts to McGregor’s Court Ruling
Since the court found Conor McGregor liable for sexual assault, reactions spilled within the MMA community. For instance, Islam Makhachev-a close associate to Khabib Nurmagomedov-is the UFC lightweight champion who issued sharp criticism at McGregor.
Through social media, Makhachev expressed his disgust saying, “It was a matter of time till this filthy bastard be exposed. Alcoholic, drug junkie + rapist. Many more facts to come out, trust me!
This is amidst extensive animosity long sowed and nurtured between the camps of McGregor and Khabib as their infamous rivalry unfolds.
Makhachev’s remarks mirroring the deep-set animosity that has nagged the two camps, with McGregor condemned in harsh terms by the lightweight UFC champion following the ruling of the court.
