The video was actually filmed in September 2016, during an event celebrating the 50th anniversary of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).
The clip has been shared widely with inaccurate captions, suggesting Gabbard’s recent connection to Trump’s cabinet. In fact, the video originally appeared on ISKCON’s YouTube channel on September 16, 2016, when Gabbard attended the anniversary celebration as the main speaker.
Social Media Users Share Misleading Caption
Social media user Sunita Singh posted the video with a caption that stirred controversy. She claimed the video was recorded “two days ago” as Gabbard chanted the Maha Mantra.
Singh’s post added that Gabbard, who she alleges was once on a “secret terror list” under President Biden, would now have access to top intelligence information as part of Trump’s team.
Many users took the post at face value, praising Gabbard for her embrace of Hindu culture and calling her “the most respected Hindu in American politics.” One user wrote, “Beauty of USA democracy!” while another commented on her “dedication to her cultural roots.”
However, the claim linking the video to Gabbard’s recent appointment is false. The recording took place years ago, as confirmed by multiple sources and originally uploaded by ISKCON News.
Gabbard’s New Role in Trump’s Cabinet
Despite the misleading video, Gabbard’s recent cabinet appointment is indeed accurate. On November 13, Donald Trump announced her as his pick for Director of National Intelligence.
Trump praised Gabbard, a former Democratic presidential candidate, saying she would bring a “fearless spirit” to the intelligence community. “Tulsi’s boldness and commitment to our constitutional rights make her the right choice to lead,” Trump said in his statement.
