“Gladiator II” is set to release on Nov. 22. The sequel to the 2000 epic is highly anticipated. Fans expect intense action and gripping drama. However, a surprising detail has emerged: Denzel Washington filmed a kiss scene.
Denzel Washington’s Cut Kiss Scene in “Gladiator II”
In an interview with Gayety, Washington shared the kiss moment. He filmed a scene where he kissed a male character. However, the scene was cut from the final film. Washington laughed and explained, “I actually kissed the man in the film, but they took it out.”
Washington’s character, a Roman businessman, was initially involved in the kiss. Although the kiss was part of the first cut, the filmmakers felt it didn’t fit. Washington joked that the kiss was “the kiss of death.” He added, “I killed him about five minutes later,” showing the action-packed nature of the film.
A Surprising Kiss from Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal
Washington’s kiss was not the only one cut. Actor Paul Mescal also filmed an intimate scene with Pedro Pascal. Mescal explained to Entertainment Weekly how he had an idea during a fight rehearsal. He suggested a kiss on Pascal’s forehead.
Mescal filmed the kiss during a take. He then asked director Ridley Scott for his opinion. “I was like, ‘Ridley, kiss on the forehead, did you like it?’” he recalled.
Ridley Scott’s response was unexpected. “There was radio silence for a second,” Mescal said. “Then Ridley’s radio crackled back and goes ‘I’m afraid I did.’” The playful moment didn’t make the final cut, though. The kiss remained a fun behind-the-scenes moment for the actors.
