Brittany Cartwright, known for her time on Vanderpump Rules, recently discussed her ex-husband Jax Taylor’s journey through rehab. Despite Taylor’s 30-day inpatient stay, Cartwright revealed she didn’t witness the changes she had hoped for.
Speaking on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, Cartwright shared that even during Taylor’s rehab stint, his behavior included “rage texting” and outbursts, casting doubt on the impact of his treatment.
Cartwright, 35, expressed that Taylor’s actions left her questioning the effectiveness of his treatment. The reality TV star revealed that Taylor, despite hours of therapy, “was still finding time to call [her] names and cuss [her] out.”
This led her to conclude that lasting change might not be possible. Although she expressed sadness over the situation, Cartwright is confident she made the right decision to move forward with her life independently.
In August, Cartwright took the decisive step of filing for divorce from Taylor, citing irreconcilable differences and ongoing issues in their relationship as her motivation.
Cartwright Discusses Decision to End Marriage with Taylor
After four years of marriage, Cartwright chose to end her relationship with Taylor, prioritising a healthy environment for their three-year-old son, Cruz. Reflecting on her choice, she emphasised that remaining in the marriage was not an option.
“I’m so glad I did,” Cartwright said, feeling relief at her decision to leave. She noted that Taylor’s behaviour during rehab was a wake-up call, showing her that staying would have brought more complications.
For longtime Vanderpump Rules fans, the separation didn’t come as a complete surprise. Earlier this year, the couple had announced a temporary break to focus on individual growth, which coincided with Taylor’s decision to enter a mental health facility.
Taylor, for his part, explained that his goal was to improve himself for his son. However, Cartwright’s recent comments suggest the experience didn’t yield the transformation she’d hoped for.
Today, Cartwright is committed to fostering a positive co-parenting environment. She remains optimistic that in the future, she and Taylor will be able to work together amicably for Cruz’s sake.
Jax Taylor Reflects on Their Split and His Mental Health Journey
Taylor, 45, has openly discussed the challenges he faced in rehab, where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Though the divorce has been “difficult,” Taylor says he understands Cartwright’s choice to end their marriage. In past interviews, Taylor has expressed a desire to eventually be “really, really good friends” with Cartwright, acknowledging her role as the mother of their son.
While Taylor entered rehab with hopes of self-improvement, he admits that his journey toward mental wellness is ongoing. He has acknowledged the challenges that come with addressing mental health issues and says he remains committed to being a better co-parent for Cruz.
Cartwright, meanwhile, remains firm in her decision to move forward. As she focuses on creating a stable life for herself and Cruz, she’s committed to maintaining a positive environment for her son, regardless of her relationship with Taylor.
