New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave has been released from the hospital following a concussion in Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
The incident took place early in the game, leaving Olave briefly motionless on the field after a hit to his head and neck area. Medical personnel stabilized him and transported him to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center for evaluation.
Saints head coach Dennis Allen assured fans that Olave’s medical evaluations showed positive results. Olave, who later posted a message thanking fans for their support, will return to New Orleans with the team.
This concussion marks Olave’s second this season, following one sustained in an October game against the Buccaneers. The 24-year-old wide receiver will now enter the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Olave’s On-Field Incident and Immediate Response
The injury occurred in the first quarter as Olave attempted a catch across the middle of the field. Panthers safety Xavier Woods struck Olave in the head, leading to an unnecessary roughness penalty. Both players and fans expressed relief when Olave showed movement while being carted off the field.
The Saints ruled Olave out for the rest of the game. Coach Allen noted that Olave’s injury affected the team’s morale, stating that it’s “difficult to come back from that” emotionally.
With seven games this season, Olave has shown strong performance despite setbacks. He has recorded 387 yards and one touchdown for the Saints.
Helmet Adjustments and Injury Prevention Efforts
In response to his prior concussion, Olave had switched to a new helmet model for improved protection. He was also considering using a Guardian Cap, an extra helmet covering designed to reduce impact, but opted not to use it during the Panthers game.
The young wide receiver’s injury history includes several head impacts from his college career at Ohio State. The Saints organization and fans alike are hopeful that Olave will be back on the field soon, fully recovered and ready to continue his promising career.
