New York State police are looking for a man known as Fernando Jimenez who is associated with a very sad event in which three people were shot, one died, and two others got hurt. This happened last Monday night, October 29, in a place called Somers, New York, and has left the people who live there very upset. The New York State Police said that Jimenez is described as a 40-year-old man who knows some of the people hurt; they are asking for any help to find him.
It is believed that Jimenez shot people he knew; among them were two children. The police have not identified who the people are, but some news places like the Times Union and Lohud have said two of the people hurt are kids. The police did not say if one of the children was the one who died.
By Tuesday morning, schools in the vicinity where Jimenez was last seen closed their doors and asked several residents to stay home as well. Police urged citizens to be alert and to check their emergency procedures.
Suspect Description and Public Warnings
Jimenez was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a grey sweatshirt. He is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs around 170 pounds. The New York State Police have asked people not to approach him if they ever encounter him and to call 911 immediately if they know his whereabouts.
Police say people should be careful and stay indoors because, certainly, in parts of Putnam Valley, there are orders to people to stay home, given special considerations and assumptions that the murderer may still be in their territory.
The New York State Police have issued a statement saying they feel sorry for the people hurt and asking everyone to help by watching out for anything strange and telling the police about it. They want people to look at their home security videos or trail cameras to see if they can find him.
Community Support and Police Request for Assistance
Following the shooting, New York State Police sent help from different departments to search for Jimenez. Local police and other nearby departments have joined forces to watch him more closely and check all roads. Officials are aggressively checking places where Jimenez may go and schools and businesses are being careful about his whereabouts.
The police ask anyone who has knowledge about Jimenez’s location or what might have happened to him to contact the police. The people around Somers and the wider surroundings can contribute by distributing the tips and acting in response to suggestions from local police.
This has made the community go sorrowful together, being shocked and upset by how the tragedy occurred. They have continued to search saying it is very important to know what is happening at that place and anyone aware of something should contact the New York State Police immediately.
