Patrick Dempsey is back on TV with his latest role in Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel series to the iconic Dexter. The new series has a star-studded cast. It includes Sarah Michelle Gellar, of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Christian Slater, of Heathers. Dempsey thanked his long career, especially after the recent actors’ strike. “Coming out of the strike, we’re all truly grateful to have employment,” he noted. “I’ve been in this business for over 30 years, and my appreciation for the work has deepened.

Familiar Faces Join the Dexter Universe

Dexter: Original Sin promises a nostalgic trip to the 1990s. It follows a young Dexter Morgan, played by Patrick Gibson. He navigates student life before becoming a famous, avenging serial killer. The series’ producers sought to capture the ’90s vibe. They cast Dempsey, Gellar, and Slater to evoke the era’s pop culture. Viewers will also see James Martinez, Christina Milian, and Molly Brown in key roles.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character, Tanya Martin, is Dexter’s boss at his forensics internship. Slater plays Dexter’s father, Harry. Clyde Phillips, the show’s creator, made a safe, collaborative set. After the original Dexter series, from 2006 to 2013, Dexter: Original Sin promises a new take on his early years. The plot is about Dexter’s evolution from a troubled youth into a complex character fans know. Paramount+ and Showtime set the premiere for December 13 on streaming, with an on-air debut in the U.S. on December 15.
