Gwyneth Paltrow reflects on her emotional journey of becoming an empty-nester after her children, Apple and Moses, leave for college. While facing waves of grief, she is also embracing the newfound space and time to reconnect with herself and rediscover her personal interests.
Gwyneth Paltrow Opens Up About Life as an Empty-Nester
Gwyneth Paltrow is navigating a new chapter in life as both her children, Apple (20) and Moses (18), have left home for college.
In a candid video shared on her Instagram Story, the 51-year-old actress revealed she has been experiencing “waves of grief and sadness” as she adjusts to her role as an empty-nester.
While the transition has been emotionally challenging, Paltrow expressed that she is also embracing the newfound space and time it has given her. “I’m kind of getting back in touch with this part of myself that I haven’t felt since I was in my 20s before I had kids,” she shared.
Reconnecting with Herself
Now that her children are off at college, Paltrow has found more time to focus on herself.
She described this phase of her life as “evolving,” allowing her to reconnect with her imagination and personal interests.
“It’s interesting to have a little more space for what I might want to do that day,” Paltrow added, as she adjusts to this new reality.
Reflections on Motherhood
Paltrow, who shares Apple and Moses with her ex-husband, Chris Martin, reflected on the nature of motherhood, acknowledging that while it defined her for years, children are meant to grow up and move on.
She explained that although her kids will visit, things will never quite be the same as they were when they lived together year-round.
Despite the mixed emotions, Paltrow remains open to this next stage in her life, finding comfort in the opportunity to rediscover parts of herself she had set aside during her years as a full-time mom.
