In a recent interview, WWE commentator Vic Joseph opened up about his experience on RAW, where he was appointed as the lead commentator in 2019. Paul Heyman, the WWE Hall of Famer, played a crucial role in giving him the opportunity. However, Joseph describes his stint on RAW as a “failure” despite the growth and improvement it led to in his career.
Vic Joseph – WWE Commentator
Victor Joseph Travagliante, born on July 8, 1985, is an American wrestling commentator currently working with WWE under the stage name Vic Joseph.
He serves as the play-by-play commentator for WWE NXT. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, Vic Joseph began his wrestling career in 2010, trained by Prime Wrestling. In 2022, he married McKenzie Mitchell.
Heyman’s Role in Vic Joseph’s RAW Appointment
In 2019, Paul Heyman, then Executive Director of WWE RAW, hired Vic Joseph as the lead commentator.
Joseph worked alongside Mason Madden and Jerry Lawler in this role. While Lawler remains a legendary name in WWE, Madden and Joseph moved on to other assignments. Joseph currently provides commentary on NXT with Booker T.
Joseph’s time on RAW, though short-lived, was a stepping stone in his career. He expressed gratitude toward Paul Heyman, who gave him the chance to be part of WWE’s flagship program.
During an appearance on “Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg,” Joseph reflected on the experience, acknowledging that he struggled to meet the expectations required for the role.
Vic Joseph: “I Look at it as a Failure”
Joseph candidly admitted that he views his RAW run as a failure.
“If it wasn’t a failure, I’d still be doing the show,” he said. While some may say it was due to a bad situation, Joseph is tougher on himself.
Despite this, he acknowledged that the experience helped him become a better commentator.
He added, “People say I’ve gotten better, and it had to happen for me to be where I am now. I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t gone through that challenge.”
