Tori Spelling recently opened up about her relationship with estranged husband Dean McDermott, emphasizing their amicable dynamic despite their ongoing divorce. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Gala of the Stars event on October 9, 2024, Spelling shared that they have managed to maintain a supportive friendship while co-parenting their five children. This revelation comes after a tumultuous period marked by their separation and subsequent divorce filing earlier this year.
Navigating Divorce with Grace
Spelling, 51, filed for divorce from McDermott, 57, in March 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. Despite the challenges that often accompany divorce, she expressed that their situation is not as contentious as many might expect. “We’re really amicable,” she stated, highlighting that their focus remains on co-parenting effectively. The couple’s official separation date was noted as June 17, 2023.
The actress reflected on how they are committed to being good friends and supportive co-parents, which she believes is essential for their children’s well-being. “I know in Hollywood people think divorces have to be ugly; ours are not,” she added.
Balancing Work and Motherhood
In her interview, Spelling also discussed the difficulties of balancing her career and motherhood. She admitted that managing both responsibilities can be challenging but emphasized the support she receives from her children. “But hey, we all do it. My kids are really supportive,” she tells PEOPLE. “The older ones take care of the little one now, so it’s a built-in kind of community in our household.”
Spelling recently participated in Dancing with the Stars, which required significant time away from her family. She shared that it was particularly hard to be away from her kids during that period but expressed gratitude for being back to her role as a mom now that the competition has concluded.
