Tia Mowry recently shared a poignant memory about losing her virginity to ex-husband Cory Hardrict at the age of 25, describing him as “my first everything.” This revelation comes as she navigates life after their divorce, reflecting on the deep emotional connections formed during their 14-year marriage. Mowry’s openness about her experiences highlights the complexities of love, intimacy, and personal growth in the wake of significant life changes.
A Journey Through Love and Intimacy
Mowry, 46, told friend and actress Essence Atkins in the first episode of her new reality show Tia Mowry: My Next Act that she finds the dating environment scary. The Sister, Sister alum shared a startling revelation about her personal life, saying that this is the first time she has had to really put herself out there.
She remarked, “You know I’ve never dated.” “My first everything was Cory.” True enough, you haven’t! Atkins answered. “I wasn’t even allowed to date until I was 18 years old,” Mowry then explained in her confessional. “I met Cory when I turned 20 and I lost my virginity at 25. There, I said it! And then we got married! Boom!”
Mowry acknowledged that she had been unhappy with having to present a façade in public that was so different from the reality behind closed doors, adding that it was frightening for her to leave her marriage. She remarked, “I got sick of going to events and people thinking that everything was perfect and it wasn’t.” “I’d feel lonely when I got home.”
“I didn’t show what was really going on in my marriage, and my celebrity persona is kind of the girl next door — the white picket fence,” she continued. “Perhaps I was attempting to live out a fantasy.”
The Impact of Their Relationship
Fans responded to Mowry’s candor on social media after the episode aired. “I really feel bad for Tia Mowry. One user commented on X, “She only knew Cory.”
Another person remarked, “I love this for Tia Mowry and I’m so proud of her.” “The openness, the demonstration that it’s acceptable to be vulnerable and to make your own decisions.” It’s also so lovely to watch her develop and learn.
After 15 years of marriage, the 44-year-old Black actor and Mowry separated in 2023. They have a 6-year-old daughter named Cairo and a 13-year-old son named Cree, who she previously stated “didn’t feel comfortable” being on camera this season.
The Seventeen Again actress talked about the new chapter in her life in a video that showed her driving Cairo to Hardrict’s home in accordance with their custody arrangement.
She told cameras, “I think dropping my kids off at their dad’s house is one of the hardest things that I’ve had to get used to.” “I’ve always desired the family dynamic of having a mother and father living together, and it’s evident when you drop your children off that’s no longer the case.”
Tia, Adam Griffin, and Erin Richard serve as executive producers for the eight-episode series, which is also executive produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment.
Tia Mowry: My Next Act will debut on We TV on October 4 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes will be accessible on AMC’s streaming service ALLBLK.
