YouTube Shorts Expands to 3 Minutes, Introducing New Creative Tools

YouTube Shorts Gets Longer, Adds New Features
YouTube Shorts Gets Longer, Adds New Features

YouTube has announced significant updates for its short-form video platform, YouTube Shorts. Starting from October 15, 2024, creators will now be able to upload Shorts that are up to three minutes long, marking a major change from the previous limit of 60 seconds. This update is aimed at offering creators more flexibility and encouraging longer, engaging content.

New Trends Page for Shorts

One of the exciting additions is the introduction of a dedicated Trends page for Shorts on YouTube’s mobile app.

This feature will allow users to explore trending short videos, making it easier to discover popular content across the platform.

The Trends page is expected to boost engagement by highlighting viral videos and emerging creators.

Additionally, YouTube is working on improving the interaction experience.

Viewers will now be able to preview the comment section of Shorts directly from the feed, making it more user-friendly and interactive.

In a blog post, YouTube explained that this update will only apply to videos with a square or tall aspect ratio.

Importantly, older videos uploaded before this date will not be impacted by the change.

The platform has also made enhancements to the Shorts player, allowing creators to take centre stage and viewers to focus on content they love.

AI Integration and Creative Tools

YouTube is also integrating Google’s AI video model, Veo, with Shorts, offering creators advanced tools to enhance their videos.

This move will give creators the ability to remix and pull from existing content on the platform, making it easier to experiment with different styles.

Another key feature in the pipeline is the “Show fewer Shorts” button, giving viewers more control over their feed by allowing them to reduce the number of Shorts they see.
