Janelle Monáe is set to host AMC’s FearFest, a popular Halloween event that showcases a lineup of horror films and spooky programming. Channeling her inner Twilight Zone, Monáe brings her distinctive style and charisma to the role, promising an engaging experience for fans of the genre. The event will feature a variety of classic and contemporary horror films, making it a must-watch for thrill-seekers this Halloween season.
A Unique Hosting Style
Monáe’s hosting approach is infused with her artistic flair, reminiscent of the eerie storytelling found in The Twilight Zone. Her ability to blend music, performance, and narrative will create a captivating atmosphere that enhances the viewing experience for audiences tuning in to FearFest.
She starts, “Behind this door is a month-long bash of your favorite fears: FearFest,” and then goes on to discuss some of the events that will be taking place, including Halloween, Child’s Play, Carrie, The Shining, and more.
The Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery actress, who admits to being a Halloween and horror enthusiast, said of her role to PEOPLE, “It just feels like an organic fit, especially if you know me and you know my love for Halloween and horror.”
“When I was asked to be the host and to be their HalloQueen, I was like, ‘This feels so right, because every movie you guys show, I watch, and I’ve watched since I’ve been little,’ ” Monáe continues, adding that AMC has “done just a remarkable job of being a source of a place of joy for all of the horror enthusiasts like myself.”
Her love for halloween
Monáe has made no secret of her passion of Halloween and her desire to dress up for the eerie occasion. In previous years, she has created some truly amazing costumes, such as a life-like chameleon, Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Willy Wonka, Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element, and Jim Carrey’s The Grinch.
“I love Halloween and being able to play different characters,” the Antebellum actress says to PEOPLE. “I can be working, traveling, moving, and attempting to solve problems, and I never had a chance to perfect the lyrics to this song.” Nonetheless, my cortisol levels just drop and I get happier whenever someone wants to chat to me about Halloween.”
She also thinks that “the rest of the world is finally realizing and giving themselves permission to be silly, to be gory, to be frightful, to be angelic — whatever that is, you’re giving yourself permission to experiment. And I adore it because of it. Thus, I also grant myself that authorization,” continues Monáe. You can find the complete schedule for AMC’s FearFest, which runs through October 31, at amc.com.
