Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky recently shared her experience trying the much-talked-about chocolate muffins served at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Known for their rich taste and viral fame, these muffins have captured the attention of athletes and fans alike. During a Raising Cane’s employee appreciation event, Ledecky revealed that while she did sample the infamous treats, she found them more akin to chocolate cake than a breakfast option, humorously noting, “I can’t do that for breakfast.”

The Chocolate Muffin Phenomenon

The chocolate muffins gained notoriety during the Olympic Games, particularly after being highlighted by Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen on TikTok. Described as “Maxi” muffins filled with dark chocolate chunks, they quickly became a favorite among athletes in the Olympic Village, with thousands consumed daily.

“One question I’ve been getting a lot is, ‘Did you try the chocolate muffins in the Olympic Village, the infamous chocolate muffins?’ Yes, I did,” the athlete said. “I tried it after I was done competing for breakfast,” she continued, adding: “I had about two bites because it was straight up chocolate cake, and I can’t do that for breakfast.”

Reflecting on her brief encounter with the muffins, Ledecky stated she only had “about two bites” after completing her events. She emphasized that while they were delicious, their rich flavor made them unsuitable for a morning meal. Her candid remarks resonate with many who have experienced similar indulgences.

Community Reactions to the Muffins

Double chocolate muffins that were served at the Olympic village during the Games in Paris earlier this summer went viral on TikTok. In order to find out more information on the delicacies, PEOPLE at the time contacted Sodexo Live!, the organization in charge of providing food for the 15,000 athletes residing in the Village. It was found that the delicacies were 130g “Maxi” muffins “presented in a tulip cup,” which had been made famous by Norwegian swimmer Henrik Christiansen.

“It is filled and topped with dark chocolate, featuring chunks of dark chocolate and milk chocolate. This muffin is served daily at the main athletes’ restaurant and at the six takeaway food areas within the Village,” a representative for the company explained.

“This dessert is very popular, as around 2,000 chocolate muffins [are] consumed each day at the Athletes’ Village. In total, Sodexo Live! plans to serve 100,000 muffins throughout the Athletes’ Village during [the] Olympic and Paralympic Games,” they added at the time, without revealing the tasty recipe.

The reaction to Ledecky’s comments has been mixed, with fans and fellow athletes chiming in on social media. Many expressed amusement at her honesty, while others shared their own experiences with the viral treat. The muffins have become a lighthearted topic of discussion among Olympians and fans alike.
