Psyonix, the developer behind the popular car football game Rocket League, has announced a new and improved format for the 2025 Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS). The updated format promises two Major events and an increased prize pool of $5 million (~£3.7 million). This expansion includes the exciting introduction of a one-versus-one competition alongside the traditional three-versus-three matches.

One-Versus-One Competition and Cash Prizes

The new changes aim to provide more opportunities for fans, players, and teams to engage with the competition.

With the addition of one-on-one matches, Rocket League is diversifying its esports scene, allowing solo players to shine on the world stage.

The RLCS 2025 season looks to build on the momentum of its previous years, offering a more dynamic and inclusive experience for the Rocket League community.

The RLCS 2025 season will introduce a new one-versus-one format, which will run parallel to the traditional three-versus-three competition.

This addition opens up the field for individual players, allowing them to showcase their skills and strategy in a more personal setting.

The top 128 players from Europe, the top 64 from South America (SAM), and the top 32 players from the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region will compete for substantial cash prizes.

This shift in focus towards solo gameplay represents Psyonix’s efforts to create more diverse competitive opportunities within the Rocket League esports ecosystem.

Expansion Through Last-Chance Open Qualifiers

Another significant change for the 2025 season is the introduction of last-chance open qualifiers.

These qualifiers will take place between the second Major and the World Championship, giving teams one final opportunity to secure a spot in the season-ending tournament.

Based on their average performance in past Majors, one team from each of the four regions will qualify, expanding the total number of teams at the World Championship from 16 to 20.

This move ensures a broader representation of talent and adds a new layer of excitement and unpredictability to the RLCS season.
