When Perry Farrell, the vocalist of the venerable rock group Jane’s Addiction, got into a physical argument with his longtime bandmate Dave Navarro, a night of music and celebration became wild. The incident happened live, frightening the audience and causing the band to call an early halt to the concert.
Jane’s Addiction Concert Turns Violent
Jane’s Addiction’s lead singer Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro, causing a chaotic finale to the show. The band was playing at the Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston on Friday, September 13, when a fight broke out between the two members of the group during a performance of “Ocean Size,” which is from the 1988 album “Nothing’s Shocking.
A YouTube video of the incident shows Farrell, 65, looking irritated as he shouted what looked to be a chant at the crowd before turning to face 57-year-old guitar player Navarro and repeating it to him. Then, it seemed as though Farrell yelled “f— you!” at his partner, who threw his arm up on the lead singer’s chest as though to restrain him. Then Farrell struck Navarro with a punch.
The event abruptly ended when lights faded and Navarro was seen taking off his guitar and setting it on the ground. Afterwards, several people rushed onstage to restrain Farrell. The band’s current North American tour began on August 9 in Las Vegas and features, for the first time since 2010, its classic lineup of bassist Eric Avery, drummer Stephen Perkins, and frontman Perry Farrell. This is when the unexpected encounter between Farrell and Navarro occurred.
The Future Of The Band
The band got back together for the first time in 14 years to play a small gig in London on May 23 and announced their 23-city tour in May.
According to a press announcement, the tour was initially scheduled to conclude in St. Louis on September 29 at the Evolution Festival. But the band expanded the trip till October 16 by adding a few more concerts in August.
Jane’s Addiction has maintained a reputation for inventiveness throughout their career, as well as for their explosive live shows and frequently turbulent personal lives. The group is still regarded as a beloved and significant force in the rock music industry in spite of the difficulties they have encountered.
This experience makes one wonder how Jane’s addiction may develop in the future. It’s unclear if the group will be able to move past this setback and carry on performing live.
