About 9,000 athletes and staff attended the two-hour show, which included performances by H.E.R., Snoop Dogg, Billie Eilish, and French artists, with over 70,000 spectators.
The ceremony, directed by Thomas Jolly, started with French singer Zaho de Sagazan performing “Sous le ciel de Paris.” Flag-bearers from all 205 countries paraded through the stadium. For the first time, the women’s marathon was the final event, and medals were awarded during the ceremony.
The show featured impressive light displays, choreography, and a golden voyager landing, along with a levitation sequence by Alain Roche playing “Hymn to Apollo.” The French band Phoenix then led a festive celebration.
IOC President Thomas Bach praised the Games for promoting unity and peace. The Olympic flag was handed from Paris to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Olympics. Tom Cruise made a memorable exit, carrying the flag through Paris on a bike before it was flown to LA.
In Los Angeles, the flag was received by various sports figures and celebrated with more performances by H.E.R., Snoop Dogg, and other artists.
India’s flag-bearers at the ceremony were PR Sreejesh and Manu Bhaker. India won six medals at the Games, with Bhaker taking bronze in shooting.
