On friday, In the 33rd edition of this quadrennial event, Khelif clinches Gold medal  in welterweight at the Paris Olympics 2024. The controversial boxer shouts loud and clear amid uncanny controversy: “I am a woman like any woman. I was born a woman, and I have lived as a woman, but there are enemies to success, and they can’t digest my success.”

The Gender Scrutiny

Khelif’s quest to clinch gold had begun with a victory against Taiwan boxer Lin Yu-ting but it turned out to be the most controversial victory. After the match which was hardly a minute match, viewers learned that Khalif had been disqualified last year from the World Championships by the International Boxing Association (IBA) as she had allegedly failed a gender test.

Imane Khelif and Li Yu-ting were allowed to participate in the latest Summer Games edition after the International Boxing Association was prohibited from the Olympics following years of concerns about its governance, fairness, and financial transparency.

Despite the controversy surrounding Khelif’s gender, the IOA has stood firmly by the female boxer, condemning the widespread online harassment of the Olympic gold medallist. The IOA also criticized the governing body of the sport for imposing arbitrary sex tests on the two boxers, labeling them as fundamentally flawed.

I was born as a woman, I live as a woman, and I am qualified.”
