Games have always been a source of thrill and excitement for people around the world as there are numerous sports that people engage in for the love of competition and physical activity. However, some sports take the danger to a whole new level. These sports push athletes to their limits and require immense skill, bravery, and physical strength. 

Calcio Storico

Wondering, what makes this game violent? well, It is a combination of football, rugby and wrestling, played in historical costumes making it the most brutal game of Florence. Calcio Storico is an early form of football that originated during the Middle Ages in Italy. The sport started in the Piazza Santa Croce in Florence and then it became known as the giuoco del calcio fiorentino or simply calcio,  also known for association football in the Italian language. 

The game is played with the four teams from the four historic quarters of Florence competing against each other, playing the two semi-finals and the final to determine the winner. Teams consist of 27 players and both hands and feet can be used to play. Like many ball games, its points are scored by shooting the ball at a designated place within the perimeter of the court, with another point scored by running along the short sides of the court. The game lasts 50 minutes with the winning team scoring the most points.

In 2007, City authorities banned the match for a year after a rough fight which saw around 50 players taken to court. After that, new rules banned convicted criminals from taking part. While since it’s starting there have been no deaths during the game. However, there have been numerous cases of players hospitalized.

Bo- Taoshi

The best thing about the Bo-Taoshi is the size and structure of the team. Bo-Taoshi is played on sports day at schools of Japan, a capture-the-flag-like game. The game, traditionally played by cadets at the NDA of Japan on its anniversary..  

It is a brutal, wild, and must-see game, which consists of two teams, totaling 150 individuals, each vying for control of the opposition’s pole. Each team is split into two groups of 75 attackers and 75 defenders fighting with each other for control of the pole. The players wear soft padded helmets, knee pads, and cups, to protect themselves, but injuries are a regular occurence. Moreover, If there is no winner, the match will be immediately replayed until it is decided.

Mesoamerican Ball Game

Mesoamerican Ball Game is just one of the many, fascinating and thrilling sports played by people in Mesoamerica since 1400 B.C.E, known as the first team sport in history. The game the Spanish witnessed in the Aztec region was just one manifestation of a long-lived and wide-ranging ballgame tradition in Mesoamerica. 

Mesoamerican peoples played many types of ball games, with different rules and styles of play. These games share certain aspects, however, particularly their settings and symbolic functions.

It is  played with solid rubber balls, involving hitting the ball using elbows, knees and hips. Balls are manufactured from native rubber-producing plants and could be quite heavy, and players had to wear layers of protective padding, especially around the midsection. 

Polo

It is one of the oldest games in the world, played on horseback, a traditional field sport, originated in ancient Persia dating back over 2,000 years. It was Initially played by Persian nobility as a training exercise for cavalry units, polo eventually spread to other parts of the world. It is played on horseback, and players often ride at high speeds, sometimes exceeding 30 miles per hour. The combination of speed and the close proximity of players and horses increases the risk of collisions and falls.

The game is played by two opposing teams to score using a long-handled wooden mallet to hit a small hard ball through the opposing team’s goal. Each team has four mounted riders, and the game usually lasts one to two hours, divided into periods called chukkas or chukkers.

Buzkashi

One of the most brutal sports, fuelled by corruption, controversy, and dead animals. Buzkashi is simply called “goat grabbing” in Persian. The game, which dates back to the 10th century involves dead animal carcasses, the whipping of opponents and horses, corruption, bribery, life-threatening and life-ending injuries and matches that can last for days. 

It is the national sport of Afghanistan and is celebrated and enjoyed by thousands. Buzkashi is also renowned for being one of the most dangerous sports in the world and also one of the most controversial sports in the world. The game rules state that players are only allowed to whip the opponent’s horses; it is like polo but with the carcass of a dead animal instead of a ball.

Egyptian Fisherman Joust

Egyptian Fisherman Joust is the  most perilous sport in history and was practiced in ancient Egypt, still practiced today in some European countries. It originated in Egypt and was practiced approximately 5,000 years ago. It involved two opposing sides boarding reed boats, facing each other while carrying spears with sharp points at both ends, with the aim of unseating their opponents from their boats.

Moreover, The athletes didn’t wear any protective gear, and the wounds inflicted by the spears. In addition, the crocodiles and hippos waited in the river to finish the job, most participants didn’t know how to swim, making it more daunting.
