The Boston Red Sox have played themselves into playoff contention over the past and a half month, raising .500 to 53-42 before the All-star break. They have lost yet again, making it the fourth loss in four games since the All-star break.
Why did the Sox lose?
After the Dodgers completed a three-game sweep of the Sox, while the Royals were two games behind the Red Sox for the third American League wild-card spot and then the All-Star break ended, they swept the White Sox. In a flash, the Red Sox were one game out of a playoff spot with the club hosting the Yankees and Mariners at Fenway Park beginning at the end of this week.
Then the series was against the Rockies at Coors Field, the Red Sox had to assert their supremacy over an inferior opponent, Colorado but the opener didn’t make it. The Rockies scored a pair of runs in the 12th inning for a 9-8 victory over the Sox, had rallied from a four-run deficit early and a one-run deficit later and with that they again lost the game making it a fourth consecutive loss.
A wake up call for Red Rox
Another tough one,” said manager Alex Cora, who was ejected before the 12th inning for arguing balls and strikes. “We just gotta keep rolling.”
The Sox had multiple chances to win in the extra innings but it was the fault of the bullpen, who couldn’t hold the Rockies scoreless for even one innings. They won in the 12th inning for a 9-8 victory. This definitely a wake up call for the Red Rox as Rockies are said to be the worst teams in baseball. The Red Rox need to get back in the form they were before.
Kelly said, “It’s different,” on the Sox’ longest losing streak in two months. “We haven’t really been in this position all year, really. But we’re not playing bad baseball. We’re in these games and it’s just not going our way. But we still have an opportunity to win this series and get back home for a week.”
