EVO Expands to Europe: Announces Major Events in France for 2025

The Evolution Championship Series is set to commence in the upcoming year, the world’s largest fighting game esports event has announced that it will soon host the edition in France in October 2025, the first largest EVO in Europe.

What is EVO?

EVO or Evolution Championship series is an American annual esports event that focuses on fighting games . It was founded by Tom Cannon in 1996, famous for his work on a fighting game website ,Shoryuken.com. EVO tournaments are completely open and they use double elimination format.

The first evolution was released as a Super Street Fighter ll Turbo and Street Fighter Alpha 2 tournament known as the Battle by the Bay. Eventually in 2002 it changed its name to EVO. The event is jointly owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment and the Endeavor esports, held across various venues in Las Vegas Valley.

COVID-19 cancellation 

In 2020 during COVID-19 era, EVO happened from July 31 to August 2 at the Mandalay Bay resort. Nevertheless due to COVID-19 pandemic the events got canceled with all the money refunded.

As a replacement an Online tournaments were organized from July 4 to August 2 but due to turbulence for instance, several publishers like Capcom, Bandai Namco, NetherRealm and Mane6 decided to step back  and eventually it got canceled.

EVO soon in France

EVO main event traditionally held in Las vegas and it announced that it will host an award show in Los Angeles  in February called EVO Awards sponsored by Qiddiya, a Saudi Arabian. Moreover it also announced that it will host a major edition in Europe in 2025 and in Singapore in 2026.

Although they didn’t release much details about the EVO France, only the dates that will take place between October 10 to 12, a much larger scale event in Europe for the first time  and the company has organized a Road to competition in the continent.
